The Tally Ho has been variously dated to between the 14th and 17th centuries. It was probably constructed as a church house – a building that was found in many Devon parishes, and more commonly constructed in the 15th and 16th centuries. The building itself doesn’t show any evidence earlier than the 17th century.
In the 1841 census it’s called the Church House Inn, but by 1850 it’s been renamed the Bolton Arms after a local landowning family. The pub was finally renamed the Tally Ho Inn in 1952 after it had been bought by Teddy Farmer.
