We are delighted to welcome back Rev Nicholas Pearkes who’ll be showing a fascinating film, this time it’s the tragic story of a dream of Empire Airships and the ego and love of a politician. The film reveals the amazing duel between two great air ships, the R100 and R101, in a design competition aimed at developing a commercial airship service for British Empire routes. Set in 1930, this tale is full of high drama, cover-ups and emotion, as well as insights into the extraordinary achievements of the design teams, who included author Nevil Shute and Barnes Wallis of later “bouncing bomb” fame. And you may find Nicholas dressed in the uniform of one of the RAF crew, returned from the dead to tell the tale.
There’ll be a raffle in the interval – donations of prizes welcome! Entrance is £5 (£2 for children) and there’ll be nibbles and refreshments available.
This event will actually take place in the Community Space – St John’s Church which has been cleverly adapted so that it can be used for much more than just Church services. The Community Space is just along the road from the Tally Ho.
Perhaps you’d like to drop into the Tally Ho before or after Battle of the Giants?
