Gin from a community owned distillery has arrived

Glenwyvis GinThe Tally Ho has now received our first bottle of Glenwyvis Gin. It’s truly delicious!

Glenwyvis will be the worlds first 100% community owned distillery, built to bring distilling back to this highland town of Dingwall. Glenwyvis has historic roots that stretch back to Ferintosh distillery in the 17th century, but in name it also honours two other former local distilleries: Glenskiach and Ben Wyvis. The innovative craft distillery will be 100% powered by renewable energy – and with over 2,600 founding members it is destined to play a major role in Highland distilling for years to come.

Glenwyvis will be a whisky distillery, but it’ll take time to build, and then more time to mature the whisky before it can be sold and drunk. So meanwhile, the enterprising Glenwyvis community have produced Glenwyvis Gin.

Made in Shetland from nine botanicals, including Ross-shire Hawthorn berries, Glenwyvis Gin is characterised by a fresh, clean, citrus finish. This unique gin has been bottled for you to celebrate the community- led revival of distilling in Dingwall.

We’ve also started stocking Sam’s cider from Winkleigh, Devon.

Kitchen now re-opening on Sunday 27th November

The recent heavy rain has revealed a leak that we weren’t aware of, which means our kitchen closure has had to be extended by a day (better to find out now!). So we won’t now be serving food on Saturday 26th, but we definitely will on Sunday 27th!

We’ve still got tables available on Sunday, so get in touch if you’d like to put our newly re-furbished kitchen to the test!

Shortlisted for the Rural Community Ownership Awards

The Tally is up for yet another award! The Tally Ho and Littlehempston Community Pub Limited is one of three finalists in the South West of England category of the Community Ownership Awards 2016!

The awards are run by the Plunkett Foundation, a national charity who support people, predominantly in rural areas, to set up and run life-changing community co-operatives and who were a great help in getting our organisation going. Part of our application read “Things that seem impossible can be achieved through working together and pooling different skills. That’s probably the most important impact locally. We now have a community who are used to pulling together and seeing results.”

The winners in each of the nine regional categories will be announced at the awards ceremony on Monday 28 November at the Millbank Tower in London. Keep your fingers crossed for the Tally Ho!

Christmas at the Tally Ho

Christmas leaflet cover 2016Looking for a venue for your Christmas party or get-together?

You’ll find a very warm welcome at the Tally Ho, South Devon’s first community owned pub.

This historic Grade 2 listed building is full of character and aided by the wood burning fires and Christmas decorations, the Tally will be a place of traditional Christmas cheer.

This is the Tally Ho’s third Christmas as a community pub and our managers, Rachel and Marc, and their staff are looking forward to giving you a happy and festive occasion to remember.

Our Christmas menu is available for tables small or large up to a maximum of 40, where you will occupy the whole pub. To help us make your party as enjoyable as possible, we do request a pre-order for you and your guests (plus a £5.00 deposit per person).

If you or your party have any special dietary requirements, please contact us and we will discuss possible alternatives for you.

A special Christmas present…

Can’t think what to buy the most important person in your life? (Or even the second or third most important…?) How about a share in a pub! We’ve still got shares in the Tally Ho for sale at £250 each, and if you’d like to give one (or more) to someone as a present, we can supply vouchers that you can put in an envelope and hand over on Christmas Day, and then your loved ones can send back to us as payment for shares in the Tally Ho.

You can find out more about Tally Ho shares on our Share Offer pages, then if you want to buy one or more share vouchers to give as presents just contact us.

Tally Ho Kitchen Refurbishment

Kitchens don’t last forever and we are giving ours some tender loving care with a full refurbishment from floor to ceiling. From Tuesday 8th to Friday 25th November 2016, the Tally Ho kitchen will say goodbye (for eighteen days) and we will unfortunately not be serving any hot food. We do apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

We look forward to reopening our kitchen doors and welcoming you back with open arms!

Why not book a table for our reopening weekend? On Saturday 26th November our full menu will be available, and on Sunday 27th November we’ll be serving our legendary Sunday Roast Lunches. Booking is essential.

The bar will still be open at the usual times, serving a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. We will also have a range of filled rolls, sandwiches and other cold snacks available.

During the kitchen closure we’ll be holding winter BBQ and pizza delivery evenings – see the notice boards in the Tally and keep an eye on this website for further information.

So please don’t be put off coming to the Tally whilst the kitchen refurbishment is under way. The atmosphere and company will still be as good as usual!

We’re in the the Good Beer Guide 2017

Good Beer Guide Rosette 2017

We’re proud to announce that CAMRA’s recently published Good Beer Guide 2017 includes the Tally Ho! Next time you’re in, take a look at the Guide which sits proudly on the bar – you can order your own copy from CAMRA’s website.

The Tally is a free house, which means that we can offer a range of beers from lots of different local breweries. As well as our popular regular beer Dartmoor Legend, we also have guest beers for you to sample. You’ll find more information on the range of real ales we offer on our Drink page.

Full access has been restored a week early!

The roadworks just along from the Tally Ho have been finished a week early, so you can get to the pub just as usual again – in fact even better than before because you don’t have to bump over the “sink hole”!

Tally stays open despite roadworks!

Road Works diversion map July 2016Devon County Coucil have given notice that the road in the centre of Littlehempston village between the telephone box and the bottom of the hill leading to Staverton and Landscove, will be closed from Monday 6th June for about two weeks to allow the “sink hole” there to be repaired. If you come to the Tally from “up north” (e.g. Staverton or Landscove) then you won’t be affected, but if you drive to our pub from anywhere else, then you’ll have to take a short diversion around our beautiful Devon lanes – well worth it, as the wild flowers are particularly spectacular at this time of year!

Cars approaching the Tally Ho from the A381 Totnes to Newton Abbot road will be diverted right at Littlehempston Cross (where the telephone box is) to follow the road north past Fordbridge Cross and Buckyette to Coppertree Cross. There you need to take a sharp left turn and follow the road all the way back past Parsonage Cross and down to Grattons Lane, where you turn right to find the Tally Ho. The whole diversion takes about 8 minutes. Click on the map to see a larger view.

It is hoped that the works will be completed by the 17th June but we have been warned that the completion date may need to be changed at short notice.

More details, including DCC’s formal site notices, are on the Littlehempston website.

So please don’t be put off coming to the Tally whilst these roadworks are under way. If anything the atmosphere and company should be even better than usual, with no through traffic passing, and loyal customers who’ve gone that extra mile sharing the pub with you. Beltane Border and Newton Bushel morris dancers won’t be put off either on Thursday 9th June!

Welcome to Rachel and Marc!

Rachel and Marc
Kim and Ian

The Tally Ho’s new management couple Rachel and Marc Davies jumped straight in at the deep end as they set to work on the first May bank holiday. They bring wide experience of the hospitality and food industries, and are delighted to be settling down in our tiny rural village.

Rachel and Marc were welcomed by a crowded pub on Friday 29th April and, at the same time, grateful thanks and a fond farewell went out to Kim and Ian who have been holding the fort at the Tally for the past few months, and also to our popular barmaid and waitress Chanel who’s leaving to join the army. We hope to see them all back again one day.
